I like avg free virus scan...even if you're infected- which will take everything soooo much longer to get going and the hellish first 5 hour scan, it works well and fairly unobtrusively- one a week or you'll be pestered by it's scan cycle and be sure to let it scan...

I've ran it,  I was able to get the robust free openoffice to help me ace out of powerpoint inclusions to speech giving, do all of my high marks in english writing & research with it - and the only annoyance is to remember to save
things as.doc versus the automatic .odt or whatever file extension is
for offine papers. and one other very minor timing codes from ppt's *powerpoint presentations) don't always transfer but the slides do and formating so nothing is wasted really but a minor bit of time switching between programs.
the other annoyances which I doubt were successfully resolved for everyone yet are- myspace games don't all work like yoville didn't and those that do are a bit choppier.  and www.pogo.com can not be made to work at all.  nor cloestmade's designe-a closet popup.  but all my government queries work, youtube took a bit of arm twisting to follow the directions of installing its working bits-if necessary.
the only minor other note was- my current computer should I set it up is one that has a script needing to be ran so it turns on the fan, type in your computer's model name on the underside of the computer and Ubuntu in a google search to check if any vagueries will bother you.

the point to ubuntu is that very few viruses exist to attack the websurfer.
gimp is very powerful as a photoshop graphics editor, openoffice has a neat axis plane changer tool for tilting pictures - exactly like the titles for the movie "the incredibles" if you remember it. and its relatively problem free for a surfing computer!  *my old dell had a minor loss in battery time listed between it and windows but started up 33% faster and shut down just as fast.  I still know very much little to nothing other than I had some good luck with the operating system- versus windows, even mac os- although macs are yummy cool if I could ever get another.

my computer had one to some time ago and it took forever to get it fixed.

@no1charmerlondon - Yes it destories my software on my games selling. Want I love the best in my life. Of survys I cannot do them anymore. This is going to be a jounral and poems.
